Since its inception in 2004, Got the Nerve? has grown beyond anything
I could have ever imagined. I have hosted athletes from across the
U.S. and Canada while raising money for The
Myelin Project and the positive response I have received from
athletes, spectators and local residents has been overwhelming.
My main goal for this event is to raise awareness and money to
support research for nerve-damaging disorders like mine. I was a
21-year-old US Marine when I was diagnosed with AMN (adrenomyeloneuropathy).
This degenerative nerve condition breaks down the protective myelin
sheath surrounding the nerves, resulting in increased difficulty
in ambulation. This forces me to use the combination of crutches
and a wheelchair.
Since my diagnosis, I have worked to show everyone that you can
overcome any obstacle you may face. Despite my daily physical challenges,
I lead a very active lifestyle and refuse to make excuses. Hand-cycling,
strength training, and instructing military-style fitness classes
are examples of how I continuously challenge myself. In keeping
with that, the Got the Nerve? Triathlon has allowed me to achieve
my goal of raising awareness for nerve disorders and providing a
physical challenge that both beginner and veteran triathletes can
enjoy.
I invite you to come join my friends and family in beautiful Mt.
Gretna. Challenge yourself and have fun while you help us support
research for nerve-damaging disorders. Hope to see you in May!!
Warmest regards,

News Update:
After our biggest year in 2007, where we raised $30,000 and
hosted over 650 athletes, the Myelin Project appointed me to their
Board of Directors, where I will oversee fundraising efforts in
the U.S.
